Comparative Study on Conception Rate of Cow in Using Frozen and Liquid Semen

The experiment was carried out at District Artificial Insemination (AI) Center at Khulna to evaluate the conception rate of frozen semen and locally produced liquid semen. Frozen semen from five different genotypes (Local, Sahiwal×Friesian, (Local×Friesian)2×Friesian, (Local×Friesian)×(Local×Frisian×Friesian), Local×Friesian) of bulls was taken which was served by Central Cattle Breeding Station at Saver, Dhaka while liquid semen from three different genotypes (Local×Friesian×Friesian, (Local×Friesian)2, Sahiwal×Friesian) of bulls was taken from the District AI Center at Daulatpur under the district of Khulna. The cows were of Local, Local×Friesian and Sahiwal×Friesian genotypes. Semen was also evaluated in the AI center Laboratory. A total of 104 inseminations were performed in cows, out of them 51 inseminations were done by frozen semen and 53 inseminations were done by liquid semen. Pregnancy o f cows was checked by a conventional rectal palpation method with the help of AI worker . Overall conception rate of frozen semen (62.75%) was found to be higher than locally produced liquid semen (54.9%). Effect of bull and cow genotypes on conception rate was also studied. No significant differences (P > 0.05) were found among bull and cow genotypes on conception rate both for frozen and liquid semen . In case of liquid semen higher conception rate was found when 1day preserved semen (68.18%) was used as compared to 2 days preserved semen (51.72%).
